Welcome To TWIN HARTS RANCH!
(the "original" Kactus Canyon Ranch)

We are Kactus Canyon Ranch and our herd name is Twin Harts in honor of our twin daughters. We are a hobby farm on 3 acres of Texas land. We have been enjoying myotonics since 2003. We strive for a self sufficient, parasite resistant, hardy goat. Our goats are not grain fed. We have sought out some of the best bloodlines and genetics we could find in order to create our own myotonic meat goat. Our bloodlines include COYOTE CREEK RANCH, ONION CREEK RANCH, and MOONLIGHT FARMS. Fainters make excellent pets, and are good specimens in the commercial end. Our goats are tested for CL and johnes, or came from tested parents that we've owned. Any new goats ever brought in were quarantined and tested before being introduced to the herd.

Our visitors all claim how good our goats look. We work diligently with 3 area vets. Our local vet has a goat specialist who has visited the farm. She was very impressed to say the least. We regularly have doctors here to draw blood, write up health exams, etc. If you have any questions about our goats or your goats please email me and I'll be happy to assist.

The Myotonic Goat

This type of goat is called many colorful names. Stiff-Leg, Wooden-Leg, Fainting, Tennessee Myotonic, Tennessee goats, Fainters, & others. They carry the recessive gene for Myotonia Congenita. Myotonia acts as an isometric exercise for their muscles, similar to a body-builder. Because of this, they have muscular bodies. Many myotonic goats have the build of a meat breed animal. Most people refer to them as a "Fainting goat".  They don't really pass out or lose consciousness as in fainting. They stay awake and alert throughout the episode which can last a fraction of a second up to over a minute. Tennessee goats have many qualities, including excellent maternal instincts. It's rare to have birthing problems. Multiple births are common. They are parasite resistant. They also are hardy, and require just the basic care. Testing has revealed a better meat-to-bone ratio than other goat breeds.
Fainters are easy to catch and work with. They don't jump nor require special fencing. They are people oriented and are sweet natured. Thus the reason for making one of the best caprine pets.
